growing food/plants in the cities
does anyone have any ideas on growing food or plants in the city?
So far I have made room in my driveway for some plants, and I do have an extra room in the house with windows all around. Any ideas as to what I can grow in nyc with our weather? Do many plants attract roaches? If anyone can give advice or point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. |

Things like spinach, Swiss chard, Japanese mustard, even hybrid broccoli... They're the best nutritional bang for a smallish space and are not hard to grow, even in partial sun. And, after reaching a moderate size, they can supply multiple, ongoing harvests. |

You might consider picking up some cheap, used large pots. Especially those Terracotta strawberry planters with holes all around for more plants. You can plant a wide range of things in them. You can even extend your growing season by bringing them in at night.
(Craigslist is probably a good resource for picking up pots cheaply. Save your money for quality potting mix and seed.) Good Luck! |

Although I'm sure there is a thriving Craig's List terra-cotta strawberry- planter-market where you live, you must understand we aren't all as lucky. Keep it simple. :rose: |

You can also grow a fair amount of potatos in old 5 callon buckets with some drain holes punched into the bottoms. Mix half compost and topsoil... just a suggestion.
